Balloon Fiesta Park

Every October more than 500 hot-air balloons launch from this field on the city’s northern edge. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta began with 13 balloons in 1972 and is now the largest balloon festival in the world.

Discover Balloon Fiesta Park

The first Fiesta was held on April 8, 1972, with 13 balloons in a shopping-center parking lot for radio station KOB’s 50th birthday. It moved to early October in 1975. (Wikipedia)

Mass ascensions begin around 7 a.m., with the Dawn Patrol flying before sunrise, special-shape rodeos and evening balloon glows. Pilots use the “Albuquerque box”, a pattern of low north winds and high south winds, to fly out and back. (Wikipedia)

The next Fiesta, the 55th, is scheduled for October 2-10, 2027 at Balloon Fiesta Park, 4401 Alameda Blvd NE, and the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum stands beside the field. (Balloon Fiesta, Visit Albuquerque, Wikipedia)
