The KiMo opened on September 19, 1927, designed by Carl Boller in Pueblo Deco style, a blend of Pueblo Revival forms, Native motifs and Art Deco lines. The Albuquerque Journal ran a naming contest and Pablo Abeita, a former governor of Isleta Pueblo, won with KiMo, meaning mountain lion. After a fire and years of decline the theatre went to the city, was restored, and now seats 650.
